One Dome
PropTech — Simplifying Home Buying
Context
OneDome is a PropTech platform that lets customers complete the entire property journey online — from search to completion. Unlike traditional players, it bundles mortgage, conveyancing and property search into one experience.
I joined focused on the mortgage offering, but my role expanded to encompass conveyancing and search products. Working in agile Kanban with a product manager, I produced low and high-fidelity prototypes, ran usability tests, A/B preference tests and surveys — iterating continuously with a development team based in Kiev.
Mortgage Passport
A new revenue-generating feature that became core to OneDome's business model — completing mortgage transactions entirely online.
The challenge: mortgage applications are complex, use intimidating language, and deter users before they start. Interviews validated this — the process felt opaque and unpredictable.
Multi-step form with conditional logic
The application adapts based on prior answers — joint applicants reveal additional fields, employment type changes the following questions, property type affects valuation inputs. Progressive disclosure keeps each step manageable despite the total complexity.
Compliance validation integrated into flow
Worked with our in-house broker to ensure every form step satisfied FCA regulatory requirements. Error messages explain what's needed in plain language, not legal jargon. The form prevents invalid submissions rather than catching them after the fact.
Transparency and step-by-step guidance
Each step shows what's needed, how long it takes, and what happens next. Users transition seamlessly from affordability check to full application without anxiety about the unknown.
Conveyancing Marketplace
Extended the platform with a marketplace for comparing and selecting conveyancing solicitors — completing the end-to-end property buying experience in one place.
Once a user instructs a conveyancer through OneDome, they can track progress in real-time, handle documents securely, and communicate proactively — all within the platform rather than through disconnected email chains.
Research Approach
Executed in-depth user research including interviews across diverse demographics — from first-time buyers to experienced remortgagers. Combined with thorough competitor analysis of both traditional brokers and digital competitors (Habito, Trussle), this research directly informed design decisions and ensured we addressed the most critical user needs.
What This Demonstrates
- Revenue-generating product design — the Mortgage Passport became a core revenue feature, directly cited in investor conversations as a key differentiator.
- Complex form design in regulated domains — multi-step conditional flows, compliance validation, progressive disclosure of complexity. The exact patterns needed for any tax, finance, or regulated product.
- Expanding scope through delivery — started on mortgage, grew to own three product areas within 8 months through demonstrating impact.
