Product Design – Web app
PropTech for buyers, sellers and renters
OneDome is a ProptTech platform whose aim is simplify the home moving experience by removing the inconveniences. Unlike other PropTech companies they provide a range of tools allowing customers to complete the whole property journey online; from search to completion.
I joined OneDome as a Product Designer, working initially on their mortgage offering. However the role soon developed to include work for the conveyancing and search products. Working in an agile kanban methodology alongside a product manager, my role encompasses responding to Jira tickets by producing both low and high fidelity prototypes.
We undertook usability tests to evaluate hypotheses and learn how to iteratively improve designs, as well as running A/B preference tests and surveys.
With a development team based in Kiev, final designs are created within Sketch and uploaded to InVision to hand over for development.
Mortgage Passport
My first role within one dome focused around their mortgage offering. This mortgage passport was designed to simplify the mortgage application process and to reduce the use of complex, and confusing language. In this role each designer was given ownership of the UX/UI lifecycle for their area of the business.
For the mortgage passport we undertook extensive user research, in the form or user interviews and surveys, as well as conducting competitor analysis in order to understand the pain points which occur during the mortgage application process. We made sure that our analysis encapsulated both traditional services such as mortgage brokers and banks, alongside more digital competitors such as offering from Habito and Trussle
I also benefitted greatly form having an in house broker as part of my team, this allowed me to always be able to consult with a subject matter expert and ensure that legal obligations were met.
A need for transparency
Our Interviews and research validated our hypothesis that the mortgage application process is overly complex for many users and lead to the creation of the mortgage passport. The main goals/outcomes for the mortgage passport were:
- Provided a step by step process in order to allow users to go from checking mortgage affordability to submitting a final process
- Ensure transparency at each step around what would be needed to complete that step and how long the step would take
- Simplify language and make forms more conversational, to make the process less intimidating
Conveyancing market place
The conveyancing market place was a fact finding and price/service comparison feature within the One Dome web app.
Its purpose was to allow our customers to find the conveyancing solicitor which best match their requirements for buying or selling a property.
This followed the One Dome practice of simplifying processes. Once a user had instructed a conveyancer through One Dome they were able to complete all aspects of a sale or purchase through our platform.
